Curcumin is the bright colored pigment in Turmeric and has been shown in studies to play a role in preventing or treating lung disease, brain disease, multiple myeloma, colon cancers and pancreatic cancer. It can also help speed recovery from surgery, treat rheumatoid arthritis better than the leading drug of choice. It may also be effective for treating Lupus, osteoarthritis and inflammatory bowel disease . In a randomized, placebo controlled, double blind study it was found that more than 50% of patients with ulcerative colitis achieved remission after one month on curcumin.

Include ¼ teaspoon of Turmeric daily with a pinch of black pepper as part of a healthy diet. Turmeric root can be found in the produce section at the grocery store and looks similar to fresh ginger. For under $10 you will have enough turmeric to last a whole year! It can be kept in the freezer for convenience. Just peel the outside and add it to smoothies, salads, curries, rice or scrambles. It is also used in the pigment of yellow mustard!

The only time it shouldn’t be used is if someone currently has gallstones.

For more detailed information go to nutritionfacts.org or read Dr. Gregors book “How not to Die”

One more thing, the yellow pigment will stain clothes and fingers so wash right away or wear gloves!
